Why an old switchboard is worth replacing
A lot of established homes still run on the switchboard they were built with — ceramic fuses, no safety switches and no spare room for anything new. It might still work, but it's doing the bare minimum.
Safety switches cut the power in a fraction of a second if current leaks to earth, whether that's through a faulty appliance or a person. Pair them with modern circuit breakers and the board protects the people in the house as well as the wiring.
An upgrade is also the moment to plan ahead. Air conditioning, an EV charger or a kitchen renovation all need circuits with somewhere to go, and a new board gives them that.

How do I know if my switchboard needs upgrading?
If it still has ceramic fuses, has no safety switches, or you're adding something big like air conditioning or an EV charger, it's worth having it checked. Scorch marks, buzzing or a burning smell from the board mean call an electrician straight away.
What's the difference between a circuit breaker and a safety switch?
A circuit breaker (or fuse) protects the wiring by cutting power when a circuit overloads or shorts. A safety switch protects people — it cuts power when it detects current leaking to earth, which is what happens during an electric shock.
Will my power be off during the upgrade?
Yes, for part of the job — the board has to be isolated while it's replaced. We'll plan the timing with you so you're not caught out.
Do I need a new switchboard for air conditioning or an EV charger?
Not always, but often. New circuits need space on the board and the right protection, so we'll check whether yours can take the extra load before anything is installed.
